A thief gang flees from the police and catches a night train with Toe, an unlucky guy who is now their hostage. There're many wealthy passengers in the train, so the thieves take advantage to rob the passengers. Oddly, when the thieves rush into the bogie, all they could see is just empty seats. Then, Toe is accused to be the one who told the passengers to escape from the train before they could begin to rob. Now, Toe has to run away before the thieves kill him. Luckily, there's a pretty girl named Ratree comes to save him in time, and tells him the horrible story of the train. There's something mysterious about the train and the passengers that Toe has to confront.

A paranormal expert investigating a gruesome slaying finds a house that is the intersection of highways transporting souls to the afterlife. Based on the wraparound story penned by Clive Barker in the author's "Books of Blood" collection, a psychic researcher, Mary Florescu, has employs medium Simon McNeal to investigate a haunted house. McNeal, at first, begins to fake his visions, but then real ghosts present themselves. Brubaker does it again, this time in movie form. A violent, action-packed, compelling revenge/vigilante story with great performances and fun characters. I've seen others compare it to La Femme Nikita and Alias (odd, the only other female assassin stories that quickly come to mind. If there is a male assassin in a movie is it an imitation of The Mechanic? Or is that only if there is a female in the lead role?) but this film easily stands on it's own. Gratuitous and darkly humorous violence mixed with a engrossing story of a killer who develops a conscience. If you like this you should definitely check out Brubaker's crime comics like Criminal or Sleeper. The guy knows how to tell a story.
